The number of stalls at the Galway continental market held by multinational operators is proving to be a bone of contention for Galway City Council.

Discount retailer Lidl is to open its latest store at Sraith Fhada on the Doughiska Road in Galway on Thursday, February 27, replacing the existing premises just 200 metres away.

Less than two months after applying to open a second store in Mullingar, Lidl has been refused permission by Westmeath County Council.
