Martin looks to new life in the party in Mayo
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin will wrap up his two day tour of Mayo today, with engagements in Ballina, Knock Airport, Claremorris, and Ballinrobe. In south Mayo he will meet with local representatives and current Galway West TD Eamon O Cuiv, who will see a large part of south Mayo come into his constituency. Speaking to the press yesterday, Martin was hopeful of seeing the party grow again in Mayo. “I remember when I was here last time, at a major meeting it was the strongest and largest crowd in numbers that turned out,” he said. “We have a strong councillor base, not what it was before, but it’s stronger than in a lot of other counties.

Late PJ Morley praised as a decent and modest man by Fianna Fáil leader
The late PJ Morley (81) was laid to rest in Knock cemetery on Wednesday afternoon last after his funeral mass. Mr Morley served as a Fianna Fáil TD for 20 years from 1977 to 1997 for the Mayo East constituency and was one of the driving forces in securing Government backing for the construction of Knock Airport in the 1980s. He died at Mayo General Hospital last Sunday following a short illness and is survived by his immediate family, wife Mary, sons Enda, Patrick, and Brian and daughter Cathy; his sisters Mary, Rene, and Bridget.
Councillors give Knock Airport local area plan the go ahead
The Ireland West Airport Knock Local Area Plan 2012 to 2018 was given the go ahead at a special meeting of Mayo County Council last Monday. The plan had been up for adoption at the normal July monthly meeting of the council, but was postponed so some amendments to the plan could be made, following consultations between the airport management, council management, and councillors.
