Fire parade, music, and visual arts at Uisneach

This May bank holiday weekend will see Ireland’s oldest Bealtaine celebration on the Hill of Uisneach on Saturday, May 2 from 2-11.30pm. The Uisneach Fire Festival’s unique ceremonial fire parade at dusk will be the centrepiece of the day-long celebration which will feature artisan foods and crafts, holistic healing, a heritage talks tent, re-enactments, and guided heritage walks. The main stage area will feature a full music programme including the Máirtín O’Connor Band and Mary Coughlan. A special Clarke’s Bar Tent will also feature a traditional music programme throughout the day.

Looking around him from the heights of Errislannan, near Clifden, Tim observes that practically every one of the headlands and islands that he sees has its saint.
