Ballinrobe Tidy Towns encourages you to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Ballinrobe Tidy Towns focussed on the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle message during the month of March, encouraging people to minimise the amount of waste they produce.

The message was promoted firstly with a talk from Sharon Cameron, Environmental Awareness Officer, then with float for the St Patrick’s Day parade.

Sharon Cameron, who gave a very informative talk, had several tips for reducing the amount of waste going to landfill:

Eliminate waste where you can. Cut down on food waste as the average household throw out €1,000 worth of food every year!

Recycle waste at home by using your green bin for plastic bottles, paper, cardboard, drinks cans, food tins and Tetrapak cartons. Use the local bottle banks to recycle glass bottles and jars. In Ballinrobe there are four bottle banks; in the Supervalu car park, at Tesco, at the County Council Offices on the Kilmaine Road and at the Mace garage on the Castlebar Road.

investing in a water butt to collect rainwater, which can be used to water plants or wash cars.
