Galway WFC back in action against Cork

Galway Women’s FC return to action after a two-week break and take on Cork City on Saturday (7.30pm ).

The game will be played at Fahy’s Field, Mervue, as a result of remedial work at Eamonn Deacy Park. The recent inclement weather also resulted in last weekend's fixture against UCD being called off as Galway remain top of the league.

News on the injury front for Don O’Riordan’s side is getting better with striker Gertie Dowd who was out for a couple of months with a knee injury returning to fitness and Megan Kelleher returning following a hamstring strain.

Continental Tyres has also announced it will be bringing its free festival of football to Mervue before the game, starting at 6pm. The festival includes a number of skills games for young and old including target shoot, speed goal; quick feet and batak board. Each Continental game will challenge individuals to work on their accuracy, speed and reactions skills - all of which are important skills for any football player to have.

Galway WFC chair Stephen Moran said: “We are grateful to our friends in Mervue United for having facilitated us on this occasion. We are expecting a large crowd on the night for this unique fixture and for the Continental Tyres Festival of Football.”
