Reddington raises concerns over Irish Water project at Carheens to Caltragh Road

Councillor Andrew Reddington raised concerns during the recent Council meeting regarding the timeline and communication from Irish Water concerning the pipe upgrade project at Carheens to Caltragh.

He stressed the importance of Irish Water providing clear and accurate updates on project timelines, as there appears to be a discrepancy between the information given to residents and the actual progress.

Reddington explained that residents had received a letter stating the project would be completed by August. However, residents have since informed him that the work could extend until December.

The road remains closed, causing significant inconvenience and frustration among residents. The residents have expressed that they would accept an August completion date, but any delay beyond that would be unacceptable. Reddington stated that he passes the road twice a day, and he certainly would like to see more work progressing on the ground.

In response to the Tuam meeting, Senior Executive Engineer John Coyle added that the operator involved in the project held a road opening license for a specific period.

He clarified that another license for the extension period would have to come to Galway County Council, and it has not to date, indicating that the project timeline should adhere to the original licensing conditions.

The official notice regarding the temporary road closure, issued under the Roads Act 1993 and the Roads Regulations 1994, specifies the period of closure as Monday, April 28, at 8am to Friday, August 15, at 5pm.
