In 2024, more than 300 apprentices graduated across Galway and Roscommon. On Friday, May 10, Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB ) was delighted to host 106 of these apprentices to officially mark their graduation.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Peter Keane, who spoke about the critical role apprentices play in addressing the country’s skills needs. Cllr Micheal “Moegie” Maher, Chairperson of the GRETB board, welcomed the graduates and noted that there are currently 29,000 apprentices training nationwide.

Sinead Morgan, GRETB’s Director of Further Education and Training, welcomed apprentices from emerging career pathways such as ICT Software Development, Auctioneering and Property Services, and Arboriculture. She also specifically noted and welcomed the encouraging increase in the number of female apprentices entering and excelling in these traditionally male-dominated fields.

Con Ferry, Apprenticeship Director at the National Apprenticeship Office, addressed the graduates and highlighted the invaluable support provided by employers and mentors throughout each apprentice’s journey.

The event was compered by Ken Farragher, GRETB’s Area Training Manager, who expressed thanks to the families and employers who supported the apprentices along the way.
