Family Carers Ireland is encouraging people in Galway to Step Up and take part in a special 5k fundraising walk this Sunday, April 13.

With the event just days away, the charity is calling on people to show up and show their support for the hundreds of thousands of people who care for loved ones at home — many without a break, financial support, or formal recognition.

A walk will take place in Palace Grounds, Tuam, along with nine other locations nationwide. There is also the option for people to complete 5km in their own area. This is not a race or a fitness challenge - it is a moment of solidarity, support, and recognition.

Every day, Ireland’s 500,000 family carers provide unwavering support to loved ones - often without recognition or adequate support. Now, it’s time for County Galway to step up for them. This nationwide event will raise vital funds and awareness to ensure that Family Carers Ireland can continue to be there for those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

“With just days to go, we’re urging everyone in Galway to get involved,” said Eileen Aherne, national fundraising manager at Family Carers Ireland. “Whether you join us at Palace Grounds, Tuam, or walk in your own community, your support helps shine a light on the realities faced by family carers — and shows they are not alone.”
