We live in a time when planning for the future poses greater challenges than ever. People today must be ready to face many career shifts over their working lives. Galway Technical Institute (GTI ) is dedicated to develop in its students the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for a future in these challenging times.

All GTI courses are designed to be of immediate and practical use in the workplace or as a pathway to further study and higher education.

Launchpad for learners

GTI provides the launch pad for learners to enter the workplace, start an apprenticeship or progress to further and higher education. A one-year full-time programme at GTI offers learners the breathing space to explore their future options, whilst gaining valuable skills and qualifications.

Offering a range of pre-university, or pathway programmes, GTI's courses are geared towards providing learners with a solid foundation prior to committing to a three, or four year, course. Applicants who successfully complete their course at GTI and achieve the necessary entry requirements, can go on to apply for more than 250 reserved QQI places in University of Galway. (www.cao.ie/university ofgalway.ie ) Places are offered on a competitive basis and are open to holders of relevant QQI awards.

Going into the workforce

For those interested in gaining a qualification and commencing work, GTI offers a variety of courses such as Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Animal Care, Office Administration and Fitness Instructing.

Exploring all options

For many students, the leap from second level into the vastness of third level can be daunting, even when a young person is sure of what it is they wish to study. More and more students are now taking an opportunity to explore all the options that are now available to them in the further education and training sector.

Courses that provide a blend of work placements, including Erasmus placements, and practical and applied learning opportunities are capturing the attention of students and employers. Furthermore, further education courses qualify for SUSI grants, and the fees are a fraction of the cost compared to the third level sector. PLC (Post Learning Courses ) programmes are also an ideal pathway to a future career in many sectors, such as the 'Accounting Technician' and 'Hairdressing Apprenticeships' that are currently running at GTI.

GTI welcomes applications from both school leavers and mature learners who wish to retrain or to up-skill. Visit the GTI website for full details of all courses. Applications can be made directly on GTI’s website at www.gti.ie
