Accountants are in huge demand in Ireland as the economy soars, and according to careersportal.ie, 95 per cent have a third level qualification in this profession. The business courses offered in GCC help students to develop skills in accounting and financial management, while improving crucial communication and presentation skills through learning with key IT programmes and techniques.

GCC's business and accounting courses help the student to understand the latest software applications and to apply their learning in practical work placement through the academic year. These work placements offer many advantages to students — they gain valuable work-based skills and develop interpersonal skills and confidence. Gaining a reference through placement can improve overall employability in the future. This year GCC students participated in Erasmus, completing their work placements in Malaga and Portugal, all fully funded by Leargas, Ireland.

The college maintains strong links with University of Galway and ATU, with their access officers providing informative talks on progression in GCC.

The option of studying a further education course is now attractive to school leavers and those hoping to upskill in their preferred career path, the costs involved are low in comparison to going to college.
