Multiple sport and fitness qualifications are available at Galway Community College

Get all the qualifications you need for a career in the sport and fitness sector at Galway Community College. GCC has the widest range of fitness courses in the west.

While studying QQI Level 5 or Level 6 sport and fitness in GCC you have the opportunity to acquire the following additional qualifications: ITEC gym instructor; ITEC diploma in personal training; Pilates instructor; pool lifeguard, aqua aerobics instructor, assistant swim teacher; FAI coach, basketball, GAA, athletics, rugby, badminton coaching badges; child protection course; first aid and inclusive physical activity training.

Facilities at GCC include a large sports hall, fully equipped fitness studio, and the college has fostered strong links with local gyms and personal trainers who give regular talks, tips and advice to students.

Work experience is included as part of the course and is invaluable to the students, as it can lead to employment. Work experience varies from coaching in schools to working in gyms and leisure centres, as well as with Government agencies in this sector. Students can also avail of the opportunity to complete work experience abroad, as part of GCC's extensive fully funded Erasmus programme.

Galway Community College has forged strong links with the ATU sports science course, and a memorandum of understanding exists between the colleges for GCC sports graduates. One to one career guidance is available for all students.
