Brian Arkins - new poetry collection

Professor Emeritus of Classics at NUIG to launch new collection of poems in Charlie Byrne’s

BRIAN ARKINS, professor emeritus of Classics at NUI, Galway, will launch his new collection of poems, Towards a Credo, tomorrow evening, Friday March 25.

The launch will take place in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop at 6pm, and the guest speaker will be the poet and author, Gerard Hanberry.

“In this wonderful collection of poems we hear the thoughtful voice of an intellectual heavyweight exploring a range of themes that touch all our lives including the three ‘horsemen’ – religion, politics, and sex,” Gerard Hanberry has said of Prof Arkins poems. “The tone can at times be humorous, even playful, at other times irreverent. These poems are marvellously allusive, surprising, even risk-taking.”

Prof Arkins is the author of 12 books of criticism, including Sexuality in Catullus, The Thought of WB Yeats and, most recently, Death and Marriage: Greek and Roman Drama.

The collection is published by Little Gull Publishing, a new imprint started in Connemara by artist Joe Boske and graphic designer Annik Weber, publishing books by local authors living in, or associated with, the West of Ireland.

Admission is free and all are welcome to the launch.
