On a wretched night in the west Shamrock Rovers enjoyed a pre-season friendly win over Galway United.

Played on Mervue United's 4G pitch Rovers pounced to score two splendid first half goals.

Danny Mandroiu pounced to score the opener following smart build up play by Jack Byrne and Andy Lyons.

Dylan Watts swept home Rovers' second goal before the break again following sharp approach work by the visitors.

Mikie Rowe, prominent for United, went close twice, but Rovers still held a commanding advantage at the interval.

Mandroiu sealed the deal with another goal for the Hoops after the restart.

As the SSE Airtricity League season edges closer, United host Bohemians at Eamonn Deacy Park next Friday.
