What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Happiness to me is often in how you decide to perceive things.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

John Hume understood that getting on with the people around you takes patience and plenty of give and take.

Which living person do you most admire?

Greta Thunberg.

Which is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

I deplored myself for long enough when I was younger and it was an awful waste of time.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Our 23-year-old camper van which has brought us to so many amazing places.

What is your favourite journey?

Ventry to Dunquin in West Kerry, over a road called the Mám Clasach.

On what occasion do you lie?

What is this ‘lying’ you speak of?

Which living person do you most despise?

Jeff Bezos for amassing an unnecessary and obscene fortune, going into space, and being ‘humbled’ by the fragility of life.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My partner Sinéad and my kids, Líle and Dáithí.

When and where were you happiest?

Exploring rock pools with my dad was wonderful when I was a kid, and happiness comes from just paying attention to my own kids in action.

Which talent would you most like to have?

To be able to just point a finger and a safe cycle lane would just appear.

What is your current state of mind?

Tired but content.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Making it this far.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what do you think it would be?

I’d like to give me another go, if that’s not cheating?

What is your most treasured possession?

My bike, as it gives me health and punctuality.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Any loss of love, due to someone or a pet passing away.

What is your favourite occupation?

The one I do now, as I get to work with and support people that want to make Galway a better place.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

The ability to laugh at yourself.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

As above.

Who are your favourite writers?

At the moment it is Robert McFarlane, and Richard Powers.

What is your motto?

‘We’ll see what the weather is like’

A native of Tralee, Donncha Foley is the development manager of the Galway Volunteer Centre,William Street West. He lives with his partner and children in Knocknacarra. You will always find him in the kitchen at parties.
