Adolescents, anxiety, and depression

If a period of suffering is handled well, an adolescent can grow from it

When adolescents are thrown into a period of anxiety or turmoil or depression it would be helpful if this was seen as a time of initiation.

There is much to bring turmoil and depression into the lives of young people. Individuals get depressed when they cannot fully face or understand a situation that appears to them unjustified or unjust. They are encountering suffering for the first time perhaps.

If this period of suffering is handled well they will grow from it. They will understand that there is suffering in life and that it affects others as well as themselves. They will get more insight into life and they will be given the gift of knowing that the psyche matures as life continues and that they can look forward to greater insight and wisdom as they grow older.
