Southern Gaels suffered a set-back in their championship ambitions when Turin came from behind to snatch victory by two points in the game played in Killucan last Saturday.

Two late goals from Sean Leech saw Turin win this closely fought encounter in which Gaels led for most of the match with excellent performances from Sean and Chulainn Dowd, Kieran Duncan and Eamon Martin.

Underage Championships

There were mixed results this week with the U17s losing out to Cullion/Delvin on a scoreline of 7-16 to 1-14. However, they were short a few key players and will still qualify for the semi-final. The U15s played St Brigid’s and their 5-9 to 1-8 win qualified them for the semi-finals to be played in August. They also played away to Cullion in a challenge and again were rewarded with a victory. The U13 side had a well merited victory away to St Vincent’s and are also on course for a semi-final spot.

Under 11 Go Games

Last Saturday the Under 11s traveled to Cullion for a hurling Blitz. Cullion, Fr Dalton’s and Castlepollard also took part. Each club fielded two teams. Gaels had two teams that played three games each and had a very enjoyable hurling experience.

Under 8 Camogie Blitz

Southern Gaels young camogie players took part in a Blitz in Drumraney last Saturday. Drumraney, St Brigid’s and Castletown Geoghegan were also in attendance with each side playing three games. Interest in camogie has developed hugely recently with great numbers in attendance at training on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The club is running a bus to the All-Ireland camogie finals in Croke Park this Sunday. They will attend the senior, intermediate and junior finals. Contact our camogie mentors if you wish to go.
