Athlone Musical Society receives three AIMS awards nominations for stunning production of Chess

Athlone Musical Society has received a magnificent three AIMS awards nominations in the Gilbert category for their production of CHESS which graced the Dean Crowe Theatre stage for eight performances in March.

With stiff competition from musical societies throughout the country, the Society is delighted to have been recognised.

Musical Director, Ger Madden, is once again nominated, having been runner up last year for his musical direction on “All Shook Up”. Having won the award last year, the talent and dedication of this year’s chorus has once again been recognised in their nomination for ‘Best Chorus’, while the third nomination is for the fabulously talented Lucia Evans, who has been nominated for ‘Best Female Singer’ for her portrayal of Florence.

All eyes will now turn towards Killarney for the AIMS Gala Awards on June 17 in the Gleneagle Hotel, when chairperson Joan Larkin hopes that the nominations will turn into trophies.

“CHESS was a huge show to bring to the stage, and the feedback from our audiences was overwhelmingly positive. We are so delighted to receive recognition from AIMS through these fantastic nominations.

“We are so grateful for our generous and loyal patrons and sponsors who supported us again this year, without whom we could not have brought the production to the stage,” Joan enthused.

The Society is holding its AGM on May 31 with confirmation that next year’s production will be announced soon.
