Westmeath start league campaign with repeat of Tailteann Cup final fixture

A repeat of the Tailteann Cup final awaits Dessie Dolan, his management and players when the Westmeath senior footballers commence their Allianz Division 3 football league campaign in Cusack Park, Mullingar, on Sunday afternoon (throw in, 2pm ).

The hosts will be hoping for a repeat of the Tailteann Cup final scoreline as they aim for promotion at the conclusion of a campaign which will see the Lake County playing seven competitive games within a two month timeframe.

In total, Westmeath will play four home fixtures over the duration of the league, neighbours Offaly (February 18 ), Antrim (March 4 ) and Tipperary (March 26 ) also visiting Cusack Park, with visits to Longford (February 5 ), Down (February 25 ) and Fermanagh (March 18 ), completing the Lake County’s round robin campaign.

Aiming to make a mark in his first season as manager, Dolan will be hoping for a division final appearance on the weekend of April 1/2 and the achieving of promotion prior to the start of the Lake County’s Leinster senior football campaign later that same month when a quarter final fixture against Louth await
