The Southern Gaels Under 19 deservedly captured the county Division Two title on Saturday last with a comprehensive victory over Ballymore side, Fr Daltons.
The victors led throughout giving a superb performance in what were difficult conditions for hurling. Well done to all the team and management of Tony O’Keeffe, Tom Murphy and Martin Geary.
Training
Training continues each Tuesday in the Marist College gym for U5 and U7 hurling enthusiasts from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, each Sunday in the Gael Scoil for the club’s U9 and U11 cohort from 2pm to 3pm and for U13 and U15 hurlers from 3pm to 4pm. New members are welcome and beginners will be provided with hurls and helmets.
Meanwhile, camogie training continues for the U19 and adult players on Wednesday nights in the Regional Sports Centre from 7pm to 8pm. Again, all newcomers are welcome.
Rise Up and Hurl
The fun and fitness hurling for former and recently retired hurlers continues every Tuesday at the Garrycastle astro-turf from 9pm to 10pm. This is a fun way to keep fit and enjoy social hurling. All newcomers are also welcome.
50th Anniversary Celebration
The club will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year with a week of celebrations from June 17-24. There will be tournament games in camogie and hurling throughout the week and a dinner Dance on Saturday, June 24, prior to which there will be a golf outing on Friday, June 23.
