Intermediate League

Southern Gaels travelled to Ringtown knowing they had to achieve victory to ensure qualification for this year’s league final.

Started positively, Gaels were unable to convert their initial scoring opportunities but undeterred they continued to create chances which eventually positively impacted the scoreboard to achieve a one point half time lead.

Southern Gaels owned the possession stakes in the second half but suffered from finishing again with a plethora of wides. However, the hard work finally paid off with Gaels’ use of the sliotar resulting in territorial dominance reflected by a nine point winning margin come the shrill of the full time whistle.

Top performers for Gaels on the day were Chulainn Dowd, Cian McCarthy, MJ Kelly, Kieran Duncan and Diarmuid Martin.

Final Friday Carnival Success

Southern Gaels hosted its first Final Friday Carnival last week and with the sunshine sparkling it proved to be a resounding success. All juvenile groups gathered on the main pitch where eight stations had been set up that allowed the groups to move from event to event over the hour or so of the carnival.

Thanks to all those that organised and helped out at this fantastic club event and in particular to the parents who brought our young hurlers to take part. Gaels Abú!
