Buccaneers RFC mourn sad passing of David Egan

The death has taken place of the former president of Buccaneers Rugby Football Club, David Egan.

The County Offaly native played primarily in the centre for Athlone RFC in the late 1970s and early 80s until rugby dealt him a cruel blow when he sustained a life-changing injury in early 1984 that confined him to a wheelchair thereafter, but his positive attitude and indomitable spirit meant he got on with the hand he was dealt with.

He contributed significantly to the club and the sport that he loved in various roles thereafter including Trustee over many years.

David was a long-term disability advocate and served in a number of key positions with CIE. A man of many interests, he co-authored with his cousin Maurice a 300-page hardback book ‘The Egans of Moate and Tullamore : Business and Politics’, possessed a quick wit and relished a good old-fashioned discussion on many a topic.

Heartfelt condolences are extended to his wife and soulmate Antoinette, sisters, brothers and wider family and friends. May David be granted eternal peace.
